Hips and Inner Thigh Stretch
Sitting with the legs wide, you walk the hands forward between the thighs, easing the inner-thigh muscles that squats and lunges rely on for depth. Tight adductors quietly cap stance width and squat depth — this stretch pays that debt down. Coached by Maddy (NASM-CPT) — these are the exact form cues he gives on every client's first week.

Sets & reps by goal
| Goal | Sets × Reps | Rest |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | 1-2 holds × 20-30 sec (pre-training, gentle depth) | 20 sec |

| Endurance | 1-2 holds × 60-120 sec (post-training) | as needed |
Level — Beginner
Beginner — proportion-friendly and scalable; the towel under the hips is the secret most people skip.
Proper form — 5 cues
- Open the legs to a comfortable straddle with the kneecaps pointing at the ceiling.
- Sit on the front edge of the sit bones — a folded towel under the hips helps.
- Hinge forward from the hips with a long back, hands walking along the floor.
- Keep both feet flexed to steady the knees.
- Settle at the first firm stretch along the inner thighs — depth arrives over weeks, not by force.
Breathing: Inhale to lengthen the spine, exhale to walk the hands a little further forward.

Common questions
Will this stretch improve my squat depth?
It removes one common limiter. Adductors that resist lengthening pull the pelvis under early in a deep squat, so freeing them often buys visible depth — especially in wide stances. Squat depth has other gatekeepers too, ankles chief among them, so treat this stretch as one tool in the depth toolkit rather than the whole answer.
How wide should my straddle be?
Wide enough that the inner thighs register a clear stretch while both kneecaps still point upward and you can sit reasonably tall — for stiff hips that may be a modest angle, and that is fine. Width is an outcome of weeks of practice, not an entry requirement; forcing a show-off angle just recruits the spine to cheat.
I feel this behind my knees, not my inner thighs — why?
With the legs straight, the straddle also lengthens the hamstrings, and if they are the tighter link they will shout first. Bend both knees slightly and shift the fold between the legs rather than over one leg — the sensation usually relocates to the inner thighs immediately. Straighten the knees again as flexibility improves.
